Storage Solutions

Visit Eva's Home Decor Store!

Smart storage is more about creativity than the amount of money you spend.
Some of our suggestions are:

1.Use baskets to organize different items such as children's toys, stationary and alike.
2.Consider adding storage in the form of hooks and racks to the backs of doors
3.In some cases, a decorative screen can be used as a 2 sided storage wall. Personally, I would use only one side for storage and another one for decoration.

Your Home Says So Much About You....

Your home serves many purposes on so many levels. Not only, it is a reflection of you and your personal style on a deepest level, but according to some ancient eastern traditions, it also has the potential of possibly shaping your present and your future. Even when some small modifications are made, you will notice more often than not that some changes will take place in your life in some way.

Because your home represents so many aspects of your life, you may feel changes on a physical level, emotional or even if you are sensitive enough on a spiritual level. Traditionally, from the ends of time, your home provided you with shelter and privacy. Most of us nowadays, use our home as a place to relax and unwind. Many of us are also using our home to express our interests and hobbies, sometimes even on a more profound level than we realize.

For instance, if there is an interest in hunting, we can use home decor touches to express our hobby/interest in a creative way that will make us happy at home even when we are not hunting.

What are some of your ways you like to express yourself in your home?

Visual Weight in Elements of Design

Back to Eva's Home Decor Site

Excerpt from DECORATING IDEA BOOK by Heather J. Parker:

"Visual Weight can't be measured by scales instead, it's all about perception. An overstuffed armchair, for instance, has more visual weight than its small wicker counterpart. Likewise, a table made of wood appears heavier than one of glass. Even if two objects are exactly the same size and shape, one can appear weightier from a visual point of view. A sofa upholstered in a large-scale floral print appears to more overpowering than the same style in a small check. Similarly, one in a dark, solid color has more visual weight than one covered in light neutral hue. It's all part of the balancing act that adds up to a well-designed room"

Springtime is finally here....

It's so wonderful that spring is finally here. We had a really long and snowy winter that never seemed to end. Those weekly snowstorms and shoveling and more shoveling. However, it all seems silly and irrelevant to complain about when you think about all of the really serious things that went on in the world as a whole. Between the political turmoil in the Middle East and Africa and natural disasters in Australia and a huge one in Japan, it has really been a long winter. It is my hope and prayer, that the beautiful and warm sun, comes out and shines and heals our mankind all over the world. Hoping that this spring will spread beautiful green pastures with the most beautiful flowers that will put smiles on as many faces as possible.

God Bless...

Christmastime Traditions

12/20/10

I love this time of year.  Everywhere you look, there are beautiful decorations.  Homes are transformed, inside and out.  Despite the cold weather, everything conveys a sense of warmth and family.  It’s great to see some break out from the traditional red and green and really feel confident in showcasing their own style.  As I always say, style is very personal and you should ways decorate your home with the things and colors that you love.  If you do that, it will always turn out beautifully.

This week, www.elledecor.com posted a feature highlighting some of the most magical holiday window displays by the largest retailers around the world.  This tradition dates back to 1928 and is one that I look forward to every year.  So many holiday traditions center around home décor items…tree ornaments, special dishes handed down from Grandparents, candelabras, and more.  What items and traditions do you hold most dear and continue to pass down from year to year, generation to generation?

Framing the Holidays

12/9/2010

I saw this video on My Home Ideas and thought it was so beautiful I just had to share it.  The colors are so unique, yet so inviting, and the idea transforms a basic wreath into a gorgeous work of art.  The great thing is that you can use any colors you like and really make it your own.  Send me pictures if you use the idea in your home.  I’d love to see how you transform it into your own creation.

I Simply Remember My Favorite...Sites

11/24/2010

I don’t know about you, but sometimes it takes hosting a special event or a family gathering to prod me into updating my décor, my dishes, glasses, window treatments, etc.  So I am definitely on my annual hunt to find a few pieces to make my tablescapes beautiful, inviting and current.  You might be doing the same, or you might simply need a break from all the holiday madness and love interior decorating as much as I do.  In either case, I thought I’d share some of my favorite websites.

What are your favorites?  I’d love to hear from you and add some new sites to my list!

Next time, I’ll share my favorite interior decorating blogs.

For This Year’s Traditions, Think Home Décor

November 9, 2010

The economy is tight.  And because of that, many people are staying closer to home – remember all of those summer commercials and articles talking about how to have the best stay-cation! Some are downsizing to smaller homes.  Others are staying put and investing in updating the home they are in.  In either case, this is a perfect year to bring some beauty to your loved ones’ homes with a special piece that they will treasure for years to come.

Where are you headed for Thanksgiving?  Wouldn’t the host just be thrilled to have you show up with a gorgeous Yamazaki cheese tray filled with amazing cheese and spreads that they can keep as a thank you for all their hard work and hospitality?  And each time they use it after that, they will think of you and your thoughtfulness.
Hanukkah is right around the corner.  What about a handmade menorah or a mezuzah made in Israel?  They are perfect gifts for a young couple just starting to make their own traditions together or a wedding gift for that December wedding you’re going to.  Or maybe for a child who celebrated their bar/bat-mitzvah this year.  A keepsake menorah they can use in their own home one day.  Is someone going through a hard time?  A beautiful Hamsa might be just the thing to lift their spirits as they begin a New Year.

And don’t forget Christmas.  How about a gorgeous new serving platter for your friend who just re-modeled her kitchen?  Or a sterling silver frame that showcases all the wonderful baby milestones for that friend who just found out she’s pregnant with her third baby.  And what a surprise for your wife to find a stunning piece of artwork under the tree as a sign that you are finally onboard with her redecorating your bedroom!

So this year, when everyone is staying a little closer to home, it’s a perfect time to add that little piece of you to your loved one’s everyday.

Happy Holidays!
